Kauai Island Updates Essence Jemiola September 23, 2026
Should You Visit Kauai After Hurricane Lowell? Here's the Latest
Yes, and your visit matters more than ever.
Hurricane Lowell has passed, and Kauai is welcoming visitors. Much of the island is ready for you right now. Here's where things stand:
South Shore: There is still some real rebuilding to do, but a huge majority of the South Shore is ready to welcome visitors. Many stores and restaurants are open, and vacation rentals are ready for guests.
East Shore: Vacation rentals, shops, and restaurants are all open and ready to welcome you.
North Shore: Recovery and cleanup after Hurricane Lowell are still underway, including world-renowned Hanalei, where crews and neighbors are working hard to get things back in shape. Some Hanalei businesses have already opened, with more to follow soon. We expect Princeville will be cleaned up and ready for visitors soon, and we'll share updates as things progress.
What about the beaches? While some beaches remain closed, several are now open, including Kealia and Lydgate. Please stay out of brown water. If the water is clear and free of debris, you can enjoy a swim. Be sure to follow all posts and advisories from the County of Kauai, as conditions can change.
Kauai is a close-knit island, and after a storm like Lowell, neighbors show up for neighbors. Friends, families, and local businesses have pulled together to clean up, repair, and get the island running again. That spirit of aloha is what makes this place so special, and it's a big part of why I'm proud to call Kauai home.
Visiting now is one of the best ways to help. Many of our small business owners, from restaurant owners to shop keepers to vacation rental hosts, depend on visitors to keep their doors open. Every meal, every stay, and every local purchase supports someone in our community.
The Kauai real estate market is still active, too. Homes are still moving, and family homes, vacation rental properties, and condominiums continue to come on the market. If you've been dreaming of owning on Kauai, this is a great time to buy.
We can't wait to welcome you back to Kauai after Hurricane Lowell. Mahalo for your support! And if you'd like more information about buying or selling on Kauai, contact me anytime.
